Weetangera Primary School Newsletter | Week 10 Term 4 2022
From Julie
Dear Families
In the nicest possible way….. we are done with 2022!
Your children have completed a year of learning, playing, connecting, engaging and challenging themselves to achieve more and accomplish many goals. And now it is time to put your feet up, enjoy the sunshine (if it ever comes our way) and celebrate in your own special way. Connect with family, friends and the community; rest, relax and reCOOPERate and spend time with those who are really special to you.
At this time of year we farewell students; especially those in Year 6, other students who are leaving to pursue learning elsewhere and members of staff who may be heading off to develop their skills in other schools.
We farewell, at the end of this year the following staff members and thank them for their dedication to improving the lives of our students: Daniel Round, Madeleine Scott, Youn You and Matt Gray. You will be missed from our connected community of educators, we also know that you will bring joy to the roles that you will take on in 2023.
I would like to acknowledge and thank all of the staff of Weetangera Primary School. It has been another year of learning and our students have thrived in the care of our teachers and support staff.
This being the final newsletter of the year I have reminders and actions for you to carry out before you too finish with WPS for the year:
2023 BOOKPACKS;
This afternoon, you should receive an email regarding the purchase of book packs for 2023. Book packs give us the opportunity to purchase high quality stationery at bulk prices, ensuring that all students have the stationery they need for learning.
Please make arrangements to pay for your child/rens book pack any time after 1 January 2023.
Board Vacancies in 2023
The Weetangera Primary School Board oversees the strategic direction of the school. Nominations for vacant Board positions open in early 2023. Please see this document for further information.
Moving the front office:
With the refurbishment of the front office over the holiday period this will mean that for a (hopefully) short period of time in 2023 all the administrative area, including both Mel Bezear and myself will be located in an alternate space. There will be NO access through the front doors of the school. The administrative area will be located in Unit 6 and we will signpost the entrance so that you can find the office. We are excited because work begins on Saturday, 17 December 2022.

Congratulations to our Year 6 Graduates!
Congratulations to our year 6 graduating class, who are now moving on to high school and the many adventures ahead. We are so proud of you.
Weetangera Primary School Giving Tree
Thank you to our community for such a wonderful response to the giving tree. We received hundreds of items of clothing, shoes and hats that we have now passed on to Roundabout Canberra. We are so proud of the 5 students from year 2 who were instrumental in making this happen: Ananya, Tahlia, Nila, Julie and Eve. How wonderful to see our young students who are incredibly kind and generous and already so tuned in to the needs of our community
P&C Update
LAPATHON 2022!
We were lucky to have some of the best weather all year on the day, it was warm, sunny and calm! Perfect weather for some outside time.
The fluro them was a great choice by the SRC with a sea of colour snaking it’s way around the grounds for nearly 2 hours. We saw some amazing numbers from the students, with many students needing a second lap card!
Woolworths Hawker provided a huge amount of fruit for the students, and after the last lap was complete they devoured it all before returning to class exhausted to tally their laps.
Thank you to all the students and their families for the amazing efforts collecting sponsors, it was a great success with over $11,400 raised toward the improvement of the outdoor play spaces. Stay tuned for the first sneak peak at what has been planned!
- The senior class with the highest average laps per student was: 5/6DR (Daniel Round)
- The junior class with the highest average laps per student was: 2LD (Lauren Domio)
These classes will have their names added to the trophy, and would have received a special morning tea courtesy of Belinda and the canteen staff.
We hope everyone had a great time, and is looking forward to Lapathon 2023!
